He became aware of breathing problems quite a while ago, when he was diagnosed with emphysema but only after being admitted to hospital 4 weeks ago, was it discovered that he had Pulmonary Fibrosis. He broke his hip after being home for one week, and then re-admitted to Dewsbury General Hospital for an operation. Within 24 hours of his hip operation, he was taken to HDU and then passed away on Friday 12th February 2010 at 14.25 at the age of 80 years old.
